The best way to start getting involved is making little changes and swaps to every day things. Reusable straws, coffee cups, straws and bags are great stocking stuffers for the upcoming holidays! Here are a couple things that you can swap or do to help our environment.
- Cut back on plastic! Grab a couple reusable straws, cups, and shopping bags to help fight the demand for single use plastics. You can also find reusable produce bags too for whenever you are buying produce from the grocery store. Some coffee shops offer discounts for bringing in your own mug!
- Turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth in between rinses.
- RECYCLE, recycle, RECYCLE! Plastic, paper, glass, boxes, old phones, hangers, etc.
- When possible use E Tickets, E passes, and enroll in paperless billing. Not only is this one less thing to carry around and keep track of, but it reduces paper waste.
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room, this will also help you save money on your electric bill!
- Save those extra napkins you grab at restaurants. We all do it, we are eating out and when grabbing napkins for the table, we grab a handful and only use one of two. Next time, instead of throwing them out, save them! I keep a zip lock bag of them in my car and use them all the time for car spills, make up blotting, etc.
- Cut down on meat consumption! I will cover this a little more in detail on my next post but having a meatless Monday can make a huge change! Not only for your health but you would be surprised at the amount of water it takes to make one pound of meat. 2,500 gallons!!!
